Does intelligence reside at the edge or in the core of the network? Are smart devices connecting to dumb networks or dumb devices to intelligent networks? The truth is that in the 21st century the edge and the core are converging and providing a new set of challenges, opportunities and revenue models. Hossein Eslambolchi, President of AT&T's Global Networking Technology Services, describes the IP evolution and the wireless, on-demand, collaborative network of the not to distant future.

The convergence of the edge and the core of the network is facilitating new partnerships between applications and IP providers to establish an intelligent service network. Hossein talks about the importance of Web Services and how they hide the complexity of the the network while providing a platform for collaboration within and between businesses. The growth of telecommuting and wireless technology is significantly shaping the future of this intelligent service network.

Telecommunication companies, such as AT&T, are moving up the software stack to meet the challenges of a secure, reliable and on-demand network.
