As a contributor to many major technology publications, Dave Rosenberg is in a unique position to comment on many of the current events in the computer field. As the guest of Phil Windley, Matt Asay, and Scott C Lemon, he reviews some of these issues.
The group first reviews the state of customer support from technology companies. Unfortunately, some of the most well-known companies are not succeeding in making their users happy. Are bloggers having a positive impact? For example, a company may be more likely to try to make someone happy if the customer is writing in a public forum that might influence others.
In addition, an assessment of alternative operating sytems leads to a discussion of the state of Novell and how they are losing kernel developers to Oracle. Is this related to Novell's becoming more of a Linux company instead of an open source company?
Other topics discussed include Microsoft's support for the SCO lawsuit, the release of Firefox 2.0, and application generators, such as Ming and Rails.
Co-host Matt Asay is vice president of Business Development for Alfresco, the leading open source Enterprise Content Management company. Prior to Alfresco Matt co-founded Novell's Linux Business Office, founded the Open Source Business Conference, and ran embedded Linux vendor Lineo's Network & Communications division. Matt earned a JD from Stanford Law School, where he spent two of his three years studying open source licensing under Professor Lawrence Lessig. He serves on the advisory boards for SugarCRM, JasperSoft, Bungee Labs, MuleSource, and Specifix, and on the board for OSI.
Co-host Scott C. Lemon is CTO of MediaForge - a next generation viral marketing and web enhancement company - and founder of HumanXtensions - an Internet R&D company. Scott's recent history in the computer industry include several small start-ups, along with being Chief Technologist at SCO, Chief Strategist at Vultus, and holding numerous positions during his four tours of duty at Novell. Scott's expertise ranges from computer and wireless hardware technologies, to networking and distributed software applications. As a futurist studying the patterns of evolution, his past experiences in operating systems - CP/M, DOS, Windows, OS/2, NetWare, UNIX, Linux and others - is allowing him to explore the new levels of abstractions provided by the Internet.
Dave Rosenberg is the CEO and Co-founder of MuleSource Inc., a leader provider of open source infrastructure and integration software. Prior to founding MuleSource, Dave Rosenberg served as Chief Information Officer for Glass Lewis & Co., a leading investment research and proxy advisory firm. Rosenberg also served as Principal Analyst for the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), a global consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux.
Previously, Rosenberg was Programs Director for LinuxWorld and Comdex and held technology and marketing positions at Sprint, OmniSky and NorthPoint Communications. At OmniSky his work on wireless provisioning systems was awarded a U.S. Patent. He contributes regularly to leading industry and business publications, including BusinessWeek, InfoWorld, ComputerWorld, CNET, ZDNet, Release 1.0, Slashdot and IBM DeveloperWorks. He co-authors Open Sources, the most widely-read open source related blog.
Rosenberg holds a BA from Rutgers University and an MBA from Pepperdine University.
