Information Technology is an enabler, not an end in itself. What changes do we need to make in order to focus on service delivery rather than technology? One approach is the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
ITIL was created by the UK Government in an attempt to provide structure and control over its burgeoning IT infrastructure. ITIL has since found broad application in the private sector and has experienced rapid adoption in Europe. Enterprises in the U.S.A. have begun to use ITIL as well, in an effort to improve service and control costs. In this presentation from the Burton Group Catalyst conference Michael Disabato introduces the concepts of ITIL and discusses its importance to the enterprise.
Michael Disabato of the Burton Group specializes in wireless and mobility technologies for end-user organizations and service providers, telecom industry and government policies. He has over twenty five years of experience in consulting, applications development, networking, security, mobility and technology assessment. He has been Senior Manager in Network Engineering for WorldCom Conferencing, Enterprise Architect for Security and Networks, and Manager of the Applied Technology Lab for McDonald's Corporation. He owned a consulting firm that focused on order entry, point-of-sale and networked systems. He presented at the International Symposium on Integrated Network Management, Wi-Fi Planet, CeBIT America and Networld+Interop. Author of numerous industry trade articles he was named one of ten Visionaries in 1993 by Communications Week Magazine and one of the 50 Most Influential People in Network Industry by Network Computing Magazine.
